About Me + Contact

Hello there!

I'm seventeen (going on eighteen) year old Rose May. I hope my age isn't a hindrance to those who work with me or read my reviews. If it is, well, check back in a year and I'll be an adult.

Something I find important is not lying about my age. I am seventeen. I've been reading romance novels since I was twelve - like many of the people who read my reviews. I know that sex isn't supposed to be talked about, thought about, read about, etc by people my age. For me, the silence has only made me curious - not a solution to a growing problem, but rather a cause of it. But that's an argument about a dysfunctional society that we can save for another time.

Why do I love romance? Romance novels have done a lot of good for me in raising my self-confidence. I feel like I emmulate a lot of the qualities the heroines do and can learn from their relationship mistakes - like the mistake not to offer a second chance, or the mistake of not knowing when enough is enough - and how they fix them. Reading romance novels have shown me it's okay to be an independent, intelligent, and assertive woman (something society doesn't particularly favor) - and to have high standards in my relationships because I am worth it. I also love that romance novels can make fun of some of the stereotypical pitfalls of both males and females in a way that is educational and humorous.

I believe romance novels have shaped me into the strong, self-confident, intelligent, spirited, passionate, no-nonsense girl I am today who doesn't succumb to peer pressure or worry about her body or make-up. When I think of all that romance novels have done for me, I wish they weren't so taboo. In opposition to that, I've started my blog - although I suppose I am still a little pressured because I won't use my real name. But I started this blog to say 'hey, I'm a smart, rational, independent-thinking teenager who reads a ton of romance. Look what romance has done for me and stop dissing the genre because you're insecure'. Or something along those lines.

I like to run, read, write, sing (opera and musical theater), garden, play piano, and eat. And sleep. I love to sleep. I study a lot. I do stage crew. I want to be a trauma surgeon. I have the grades and the SAT scores to back it up. I'm pretty average and yet so extraordinary. I'm not a braggart - but I'm not overtly modest. Them facts are facts. Contact me with the info below - questions, concerns, comments... you get the idea. You're smart, too, aren't you?

Contact me at romanticrosemay@yahoo.com  - I'd love to hear from you!!! I've read many more books that those I've reviewed (only a very small portion of my library has been reviewed) so if you're looking for a recommendation for any genre I'm here to help. I'm best able to recommend in the contemporary and historical romance genres - and I can point you towards some paranormal or YA authors as well. For other genres I'd be happy to direct you to a blog more suited to your tastes!
