Booking Through Thursday: Odd

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly bookish meme! This week's questions are:

1. What’s the oddest book you’ve ever read?

2. Did you like it? Hate it? Did it make you think?

To be honest I don't really remember all that many really 'odd' books - a lot of what I read when I was younger was fantasy and paranormal, so I grew up on some pretty out-there books. I think the strangest book I ever read was Catcher and the Rye by J.D. Salinger. I say that because I truly cannot understand the main character at all and I think it was the first time I'd every truly been unable to connect to a protagonist. Every thought and scene was unfamiliar and foreign to me, and yet the book still took place on Earth in the USA. It was the strangest feeling.

2. Ugh, I HATED that book! All I could think of was how whiny, annoying, selfish, insensitive, and phony Holden was. And then we spent a week on it in English class, discussing how lost and confused he was - I tell you, I had NO sympathy for him. Even less after that week he spent making my life a misery. Grrr...

On a happier note, don't miss a special guest post coming soon from one of my new favorite authors: Rosalie Lario! You'll be seeing reviews of her books and a guest post on the 8th - I hope you enjoy! She's written some really great stuff for you and there's a giveaway too!

Booking Through Thursday: History

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly bookish meme! This week's question is:

1. When is the last time you read a history book? Historical biography? You know, something that took place in the past but was REAL.

1. Well, I read historical romance so I clearly like history - but I don't like reading plain old history books. Maybe because they do remind me too much of my school books or because they don't include the romantic element that I love. The same goes for historical biography. I am afraid to say that history and historical biography bore me greatly and I much prefer to live in my fantasy, completely fictional historical romance world where everything ends with a HEA.

Booking Through Thursday: Anticipation

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly bookish meme! This week's questions are:

1. What’s the last book you were really EXCITED to read?
2. And, were you excited about it in advance? Or did the excitement bloom while you were reading it?
 3. Are there any books you’re excited about right NOW?
1. The last book I was really excited to read was probably Claiming the Courtesan by Anna Campbell. I loved Midnight's Wild Passion so much that I was so excited to finally read Claiming the Courtesan. I think the last book that I was really excited to read and still loved during the book was When You Dare by Lori Foster, my other absolute favorite author. These two ladies get me pretty worked up. :)

2. I was excited about both of those books in advance. The last book I became excited while reading (like, sweating and reading til 3AM excited) was Warprize by Elizabeth Vaughan. Oh. My. God. That book was so great. I was looking for a good read. That book was FANTASTIC (aka go READ IT NOW)

3. Right now I'm really excited about a lot of books. Here's a little list:
  • Breathe (ARC) by Donna Alward
  • Dangerous in Diamonds by Madeline Hunter
  • Dark Lover by J. R. Ward
  • Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison
  • My Reckless Surrender by Anna Campbell
  • To Pleasure a Duke by Sara Bennett
Really I'm excited about more books than that. I'm currently reading Hush by Cherry Adair and am starting to get super excited about that one too. I just seem to be excited about books in general. But I think Warprize had to be the book, out of all the books I've EVER read, that got me the most excited. :) Happy Thursday - and Happy 17th Birthday to me!

Booking Through Thursdays: Repeat (+ Virus)

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly bookish meme! This week's questions are:
1. What’s the first book that you ever read more than once? (I’m assuming there’s at least one.)

2. What book have you read the most times? And - how many?

1. The first book I remember reading over and over was The Bad Beginning, part of the Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. I loved that series so much as a kid.

2. The book I've read the most times is, without a doubt, Simon Says by Lori Foster. I read a chapter or two of it almost every night before I go to bed - it's one of my very favorites and it helps me get to sleep (not because it's boring. Nuh uh) because it's such a long-time comfort. I've probably read that book over 70 times over the years. I practically have it memorized. Huh.

Also, my computer got a virus so I'm on the library computers and my really, really old one that doesn't work so well. As all of my reviews were saved on my sick computer, I'm scrabbling to write some new ones! I hope you can all be patient as I attempt to get everything back up and running! Also, don't forget to check out the Giveaway (link in the upper right hand corner of the page)! Two lucky winners will get Anna Campbell books!!!

Booking Through Thursday: Biographies

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly bookish meme! This week's question is:There are so many crappy biographies … would you rather read a poorly-written biography of a fascinating life, OR an exquisitely well-written, wonderful read of one of a not-so-interesting life?

I would rather read a well-written, wonderful read of a boring life. Honestly, I can't stand to read poorly written material of any kind, despite how wonderful and intruiging the plot might be. No matter how great the life, if the story isn't well told I'm OUT. What about you?

Booking Through Thursday: Dog Days

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly bookish meme! This week's questions are:
1. Since my dog is turning 10 today … what animal-related books have you read?
2. Which do you love?
3. Do you have a favorite literary dog? (Snoopy, anyone?)

Oh wow. I don't think I've read that many books that are related to animals. I know I've read some Lori Foster books that mentioned dogs and cats, including her latest series, Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor. But I haven't read any books that had animals as a central part of the novel. I think my favorite dog - who isn't a literary dog but you'll probably know him anyway - is Wishbone. Remember him?

Book Through Thursday: Size Matters

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly bookish meme! This week's questions are:

1. What’s the largest your personal library has ever been? What’s the greatest number of books you’ve ever owned at one time? (Estimates are fine.)

2. Is your collection NOW the biggest it’s ever been? Or have you down-sized?

3. What’s the fewest number of books you’ve ever owned (not counting your pre-reading years)?

My library is currently at it's biggest - with around 500 books, I'd say - 650 if Kindle books count too. I have three small shelves of books that have grown dusty since I got my Kindle in August of 2010.  Until a few years ago I only borrowed books from the library - so having books of my own is new to me. Back then, when my library was at its smallest, I only had about... 100 books in my room. This year I've been buying up books like crazy (much to the chagrin of my fashionista friends who wonder why I suddenly no longer have any shoe money) and my library has really exploded.
